- Poppy Playtime fans can now enjoy the third instalment in the game on mobile
- Chapter 3 launches today for iOS, and sees you explore a decrepit orphanage
- Atypical survival horror with a mascot coat of paint, or blood
Fans of mascot horror will have plenty to enjoy today as Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 launches on iOS. This decidedly unfriendly neighbourhood sees you exploring a foreboding toy factory, taking you below it and into a decrepit orphanage. You’ll have to dodge some very unpleasant toys in your quest to uncover horrific mysteries.
Poppy Playtime sees you take on the role of an explorer in a long-since abandoned toy factory, home to the titular Poppy Playtime toy. Using an odd backpack with attached hands and arms, you’re able to navigate the environment using a variety of handy (pun intended) attachments.
Although very popular in its own right, Poppy Playtime seems to have been a tipping point for many people in terms of the mascot horror genre, so named because of it seeing traditionally cutesy and inoffensive children’s characters turned bad. However, despite that, it’s still proven very popular.
Time to play
Personally speaking, I’ve never quite gotten the fuss around Poppy Playtime either way. Although I will certainly say that from what I’ve heard and seen the idea of splitting relatively short segments into different “parts” seems a little bit iffy to me. But for the people who like this sort of stuff, this is the sort of stuff they’ll like, I’m sure.
But for the rest of us, there are other options too. For example, if you’re looking for other spooky options, even though Halloween has been and gone we’ve still got our ranking of the top 25 best iOS horror games for iPhone and iPad!
