X live Magic Chess: Go Go is, surprisingly, not about chess in this Mobile Legends: Bang Bang spin-off

  • Magic Chess: Go Go is an upcoming spin-off game from Moonton’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang
  • It’ll see you take on 5v5 auto-battles between well-known characters from the game
  • It’s not unlike the League of Legends spin-off Teamfight Tactics

While Moonton’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang may not measure up to the seismic impact of games like Tencent’s Honor of Kings or perennial pop-culture icon League of Legends, it still very much holds its own. And it seems the developer is looking to capitalise on that popularity with a new spin-off called Magic Chess: Go Go.

Set to arrive on December 31st, despite the name Magic Chess: Go Go is not in fact a chess title. Like Teamfight Tactics and its predecessor Auto Chess, Magic Chess: Go Go is an auto-battler where you assemble a team out of heroes and characters from Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, creating the best possible synergy to win the game when they engage. Split into multiple phases, the main strategy is in how you prepare and anticipate your opponent’s own choices.

However, there are some wrinkles to the formula that Magic Chess is debuting. For example, 10v10 looks to be a prominent feature alongside the more traditional 5v5 format. Aside from that though, those familiar with the auto-battling formula won’t find too many surprises here. Pre-registration is now open for Magic Chess: Go Go, and can be found on the the game’s official site.

I admit, the auto-battler format is one I’m not the biggest fan of. I’ve always preferred a granular, moment-to-moment strategy, or at the very least to have more control over my units and heroes. However, it seems that virtually every MOBA nowadays needs to have an auto-chess-style spin-off, so I guess it was only a matter of time before Moonton followed suit.

While the scene may have changed a bit, our evergreen article comparing three of the top auto chess games out there to see which is best is still available! So take a gander and find out what we thought took the gold between Auto Chess, Dota Underlords and Chess Rush!
