Romero Games has added menopause leave, clothing allowance, and other worker benefits in 2024, as the company celebrates its tenth birthday.
Veteran developer and Doom co-creator John Romero claimed on X that as his developer, Romero Games, entered its tenth year, it added several worker benefits.
Romero Games was founded in 2015 by Romero and his wife Brenda.
“The RG team is made of people from all over the world, with the core of our team in Ireland and other countries in the EU and UK,” wrote Romero.
“Each year, the leadership team adds more benefits, and 2024 was no exception (we added menopause leave, clothing allowance, and matched donations).”
Romero Games is based in Galway, Ireland. The team currently includes more than 75 developers and plans to expand into a larger office in 2025.
“In an industry that is exceptionally turbulent, celebrating this anniversary is significant and we don’t take it for granted,” Romero continued. “With that said, thank you to our amazing team and to all of you who look forward to playing our games.”
Game developer Farhan Noor, who has been tracking job cuts on videogameslayoffs.com, estimates that around 13,000 games industry employees have been laid off so far this year – up from a total of 10,500 in 2023.
Romero Games is currently making a first-person shooter, however little is known about the project.
