Gigantamax Pokemon have finally arrived in Pokemon GO, bringing some of the hardest challenges the game has ever seen. These massive creatures aren’t just bigger versions of regular Pokemon – they come with unique appearances and special moves. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about how to catch a Gigantamax Pokemon in Pokemon GO.
What Are Gigantamax Pokemon in Pokemon GO?
Think of Gigantamax Pokemon as super-sized versions of regular Pokemon with a special twist. Unlike regular Dynamax Pokemon that just grow bigger, Gigantamax Pokemon partially change their appearance when they transform. They also get access to unique G-Max moves that regular Dynamax Pokemon can’t use. Currently, you can find Gigantamax versions of Pokemon like Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise in the game.
Each Gigantamax Pokemon can learn three special Max Moves:
- G-Max Move: This is their signature attack, unique to each Gigantamax species. For example:
- Gigantamax Venusaur: G-Max Vine Lash
- Gigantamax Charizard: G-Max Wildfire
- Gigantamax Blastoise: G-Max Cannonade
- Max Guard: A defensive move that reduces damage from the Power Spot Boss
- Max Spirit: A support move that heals both your Pokemon and your allies
You can power them up using Max Particles and Candy. Also, unlike Dynamax Pokemon, a Gigantamax Pokemon’s G-Max Move doesn’t have to match the type of its Fast Attack.
How to Catch a Gigantamax Pokemon in Pokemon GO?
Getting a Gigantamax Pokemon isn’t easy, but here are the best tips to help you out.
- Find a Power Spot: First, you’ll need to locate a Power Spot on your map where Gigantamax Pokemon appear. These special locations host Max Battles where you can encounter these massive Pokemon.
- Gather a Team: You will definitely need a team to get your hands on a Gigantamax Pokemon. These specific Pokemon might just be the hardest Pokemon to defeat in the game and hence it is recommended to have at least 30 players (maximum 40) with you. The game splits players into groups of four, but everyone’s damage counts toward defeating the boss.
- Before joining the battle, make sure you have 800 Max Particles and a Gigantamax or Dynamax Pokemon.
Current Gigantamax Schedule
