EA Sports College Football 25 is reportedly the best-selling American football game of all time in the US, in terms of revenue.
According to Circana (formerly NPD) video game industry analyst Mat Piscatella, the game has now overtaken all other American football games in history in terms of US dollar sales.
“The record was previously held by Madden NFL 07,” Piscatella wrote on Bluesky.
He also pointed out that the game is now the overall number two best-selling sports game in US history in terms of US dollar sales, bettered only by NBA 2K21.
The NBA 2K series dominates the top 10 best-selling sports games in the US, with six games featured in the list.
EA Sports College Football 25 (in 2nd place), Madden NFL 07 (5th), Wii Sports Resort (8th) and Madden NFL 08 (9th) are the only games in the top 10 not to be published by 2K Sports.
In August, Circana revealed that College Football 25 had overtaken Helldivers 2 as the best-selling game of 2024 year-to-date in the US.
The game enjoyed a blockbuster release that drove double-digit growth in July US video game spending.
Its success was likely due to the fact it was the first new college football game in over a decade, the last being NCAA Football 14.
It was also the first college sports game to feature real player names and likenesses, following a decision made by the Supreme Court that the NCAA’s rules stopping athletes from making a profit from their own names violated federal antitrust law.
